PROJECT LIBERTY SHIP'S YOUTH PROGRAM INFORMATION AREA

SAFETY FIRST!

Welcome to the World War II Liberty Ship S.S. John W. Brown. We want you to enjoy your experience on this historic vessel. While you are on board, your safety is of utmost importance to us. Therefore, we insist that you diligently observe the following rules:

Review the rules of the ship with your group prior to your visit. The Docent will review them with group when you arrive.

You and your assistant leaders are responsible for your youths at all times!

Project Liberty Ship encourages and enforces the following of the Boy Scouts of America's "Youth Protection Guidelines" for all youth groups visiting the ship.

Alcohol is prohibited at all times, on the ship and off.

Smoking is permitted on the main deck, outside only.

No running on the ship at any time.

Shoes shall be worn at all times while not in a bunk.

Open-toe shoes are not permitted aboard the ship at any time.

Do not attempt to open any hatch cover for any reason.

Keep off all vertical ladders - use the inclined stairways. One foot on the deck at all times.

Always watch where you are going, so as not to fall or bump your head. Remember, this is a working World War II era cargo vessel.

Youths must stay in groups of two or more and be in the company of an adult at all times.

Please, do not operate any switches, valves, equipment or weapons on the ship.

Please, do not allow climbing, hanging from, or horseplay of any kind on the bunks.

Please, do not allow the throwing of objects, hard or soft, while aboard the ship.

Do not leave the ship without notifying the Docents (our staff) first!

Remain in designated areas after dark. A Docent will review the designated areas with you. The engine room, bridge, and all weather (outside) decks are off-limits after dark.

Certain areas of the ship are off limits to visitors, except during guided tours. Some areas are posted "Crew Only". These areas are off limits at all times.

All guests under the age of 18 are restricted to your assigned area(s) between the hours of 2200 - 0600, unless accompanied by an adult.

The Docent may post additional areas of the ship "off-limits" at his/her desecration because of safety issues, ie; wet or icy decks could be made off-limits.

Leave the galley, heads and living areas clean and tidy.

Notify our staff immediately if anyone is injured or becomes ill.

The Docent will instruct you of emergency evacuation and muster procedures when you arrive for your visit.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Our crew is very "safety oriented". We are always on the watch for unsafe conditions. This means that they are also watching you and your group. If anyone in the group is seen acting in an unsafe manner, the group leader will be made aware of the problem so it can be corrected immediately.
In extreme circumstances, unsafe conduct will warrant that your group leaves the ship and the group's sponsor/organization will be contacted.
