THE MISSION OF PROJECT LIBERTY SHIP
The mission of the S.S. John W. Brown Liberty Ship Museum and Memorial is to preserve the ship in seaworthy condition in order to educate its visitors about: the role of Liberty Ships in World War II, the American ship building industry that produced them, and the Merchant Mariners and the U.S. Naval Armed Guard who sailed and defended the ships on all the worlds oceans. To support these educational missions, the museum will present exhibits and programs to the public and will collect artifacts, books, photographs, oral histories and archival material relating to Liberty Ships in general and the S.S. John W. Brown in particular. The main focus of the museum collection, exhibits, and programs will always be the 1941 - 1945 period and the appearance of the ship will be maintained in its wartime configuration.
THE MISSION OF OUR YOUTH PROGRAM
Our volunteer youth program staff is dedicated to applying the wealth of knowledge
that exists within Project Liberty Ship to the education of young people. Our program is unlike any other "historic ship based" maritime
youth program because we don't tell you what you're going to accomplish during your visit, you tell us. What does that mean? It means
that we want to meet your goals, for the growth of your children, because you know what their interests and goals are. Your time aboard
SS John W. Brown is tailored to the needs of your group as specified by you. Our staff is experienced at combining resources and time
available during your visit to provide the group with an optimized weekend experience. Sometimes a leader just has too many goals
because there is so much to see and do aboard the Brown. When that happens we share our concerns with you and offer guidance to head
off a possibly disastrous experience, ensuring that your visit will be successful and something to remember.
The bottom line is that the members of Project Liberty Ship take great pleasure in working with you and your children to
assure that the past never dies, especially the legacy that was left to us by all of the heroes of WWII, both military and civilian.
So how does your youth organization fit into this?
